WATER
ARCHIVE REVIEW
So the blurb says ...
“Water intercuts between powerful individual stories, exploring man’s desire to push himself to the limits in a world of increasingly unstable climate change”.

That sounds interesting.

I get to my seat, there’s no curtain. I can see a bare looking stage with what appears to be a student union DJ’s gear in the corner. This’ll be different then.

Turns out it’s good different.

Ollie Dimsdale grabs a mic, says hi, then morphs into the first of his many characters. Ferdy Roberts and Victoria Moseley also have multiple parts.

Ollie’s include a cave diver, a radio host, and an airport tannoy jockey (actually two, one in the UK, one in Canada).

Ferdy’s a boffin, the boffin’s son, and a creepy civil servant.

And Victoria plays a political negotiator, a tough university boss, and a leaky roof.

The fourth performer is Sound Designer Tim Phillips (it’s not a student union DJ in the corner after all).

Music and sound effects, sliding panels and laptops, an overhead projector, flat screen monitors and metalized nylon fish-shaped balloons combine with excellent performances to effortlessly transport the narrative between three countries and move the characters backwards and forwards in time.

It’s funny. It’s sad. It’s slick. It’s touching. It’s clever. It’s impressive.

WOMAN IN BLACK
THE FORTUNE THEATRE
The production has been in the West End for many years and continues to intrigue a new generation. It is a confidant two-hander and quickly draws the audience into a tale of the supernatural. What is the truth behind the woman in black? Was she really guilty of … well, something terrifying …. and why live in such an isolated spot, only approached at low tide by causeway (naturally)! The woman in black does appear and I was genuinely shocked. This is scary and I loved it. Don’t go alone!!
